Blog Post #10 - Let's see what you've learned so far...

Alright brothers and sisters - it's time to test what you have learned so far.

We have learned so far about how ASL is a visual language. We have also learned about the structure of the language and how it is totally different than English.

Watch this video. NOTE - It contains offensive language. The following video is an interpretation of Cee-Lo Green's hit single, "F*** You". Please note the educational purpose of the video, and not the language.

1. What did you think of the video?

2. How was the translation of the song into ASL?

3. What was good about the video? What was bad about the video?

...and finally, +1 extra credit point on your next test to the first person to correctly answer this question:

4. Why did I post this video? What is the key thing I want to see from it?

Post your answers by Thursday at 11:59. There is no required second post for this blog.

Blog Post #9 - Television

 READ DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. CAREFULLY.

Television is a staple of American lives. Every day we sit down and watch the news, the latest sitcoms, or the dramas that keep us guessing as a break from work, school, and other things. But what is it like to watch TV without being able to hear what is happening?

Here is your assignment. Go on a site like Hulu.com or if you have Netflix, you can use that too. Find a TV show to watch - it should be an episode you have not seen before.

1. Choose and episode and watch it. However, you must have the sound muted and NO subtitles.
2. Post a comment here about the experience. How much did you understand - what did you think went on? Try to do this before Wednesday night - leave any and all comments you have about what it was like.
3. Then, before Thursday night, watch the same episode but with subtitles. Describe your experiences again. How much did you miss the first time around?

4. Comment on a classmate's experience before Friday night ends.

Because of your Children's Story being due soon there is no required blog for these two days.

Instead, if you have questions about your stories, please post them here. Need help with translating a sentence? Your classmates or I can help. Looking for conceptual ideas to make a story continue and make sense? Any and all help needed - this is your resource.

Good luck!
